Hamstring Injury Sidelines Washington Sundar From IPL 2023

Washington Sundar

On Thursday (April 27), Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed that Washington Sundar will no longer participate in the remaining matches of IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury.

The 23-year-old all-rounder played in all seven games in the first half of the tournament, taking three wickets in an over and scoring a quick 24* off 15 balls in the team’s recent fixture against the Delhi Capitals.

However, despite his efforts, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their third consecutive game.

Currently ranked ninth in the standings with a record of 2-5, the team will face the Capitals again on April 29 without Washington’s all-round skills.

Washington Sundar’s recent hamstring injury is just one in a series of unfortunate injuries for the Tamil Nadu cricketer. Earlier, he injured his left shoulder while fielding in a Royal London One-Day Cup game for Lancashire, causing him to miss the Zimbabwe tour.

He also missed T20Is against the West Indies due to a similar hamstring injury and a bunch of games for SRH due to a hand injury.

In 2021, after his impressive performances in the Gabba Test against Australia and the Ahmedabad Test against England, he suffered a finger injury while fielding for a County side in a warm-up game against India at Chester le Street.

As a result, he was ruled out of the Tests against England, the second half of the IPL, and the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
