The hosts faltered under Hampshire’s pressure, managing a mere 95 runs before being dismissed.
Meanwhile, Hampshire’s batting remained solid as they reached an impressive 89 without losing a wicket by the end of the day’s play.
Kyle Abbott also contributed significantly for the visitors, securing 3 for 23, while Tawanda Muyeye emerged as Kent’s leading scorer with 28 runs.
Kent suffered a drastic collapse, losing their last four wickets for just a single run in a span of 15 deliveries.

At the end of the day’s play, Fletcha Middleton and Joe Weatherley stood firm, unbeaten on 39 and 38 respectively, as Hampshire continued their impressive batting display.
Remarkably, the visitors trail by a mere six runs, with all ten wickets intact in their first innings.
The horizon, pregnant with anticipation, greeted both teams at the Spitfire Ground. Unsurprisingly, Hampshire, after winning the toss, elected to bowl first, capitalizing on their decision from the outset.
Ben Compton departed without adding any runs to the scoreboard, caught by Weatherley in the slips off the bowling of Mohammad Abbas.
Following suit, Zak Crawley managed only 7 runs before falling victim to Keith Barker’s lbw appeal, which also marked Barker’s 500th first-class wicket.
Having made an impressive return to the side following a prolific run in the second XI, Tawanda Muyeye displayed his comfort on the pitch.

However, his innings was cut short at a captivating 28 runs, as he fell victim to James Fuller’s lbw appeal.
Prior to the commencement of the match, Kent made an announcement that Sam Billings would be playing solely as a specialist batter, with Jordan Cox taking over wicketkeeping duties.
The official rationale behind this decision was to allow Billings to focus solely on his batting, aiming to improve his recent below-par performances.
Unfortunately, luck eluded him once again, as he was dismissed lbw by Fuller after facing just eight deliveries, with rain already beginning to fall.
As Kent struggled at a precarious score of 56 for 4, Jordan Cox emerged from the pavilion.
However, the intensity of the rain became too significant for the umpires to overlook, leading to a suspension of play until 3:58 PM.
Although the weather conditions had improved by that time, the batting conditions did not appear to have become any easier.
Jordan Cox managed to scrape together 12 runs before being caught behind off the bowling of James Fuller.
Next to depart was Joey Evison, who misjudged a delivery from Fuller, resulting in the top of his off stump being clipped.
Providing some semblance of resistance, Jack Leaning battled for 96 deliveries before being caught by Liam Dawson at second slip for 24 runs, courtesy of Kyle Abbott’s bowling.
However, once Leaning was dismissed, the tail of the Kent batting lineup swiftly crumbled.
Grant Stewart became Fuller’s fifth victim, caught behind for 14 runs.
Shortly after, Hamid Qadri was dismissed for a five-ball duck, driving Abbott’s delivery straight to Keith Barker at mid-on.

The dismal innings reached its conclusion when Wes Agar was caught by Ben Brown off Abbott’s bowling, failing to add any runs to the scoreboard.
Kent’s joyless day was further encapsulated as Joe Weatherley nicked Agar’s delivery behind when he was on 29 runs, and Cox failed to hold on to a routine chance.
