He emerged as the highest run-scorer with a total of 290 runs.

Blackcaps head coach Gary Stead praised Chapman’s outstanding display against one of the world’s best T20 bowling attacks.

He also highlighted Chapman’s match-winning knock in the fifth and deciding match, which was particularly special.

“We’re delighted to have someone in such great form added to our ODI squad,” Stead concluded.

New Zealand was leading the series 2-1 against Pakistan before the fourth T20I was abandoned due to rain.

In the final match, Pakistan appeared to be in control with Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 98 and contributions from Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim taking them to 193/5. However, Mark Chapman’s brilliant innings turned the game around.

Chapman came to bat at No. 5 when the Blackcaps were struggling at 26/3 in the fourth over.

He smashed an impressive 104* off just 57 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes, helping his team chase down the target with four balls to spare.

Jimmy Neesham’s 25-ball 45* was also crucial in the chase.

Chapman’s performance throughout the series was noteworthy, with scores of 34, 65*, and 16* in the Lahore matches, followed by an incomplete innings of 71* due to bad weather and an outstanding 104* in Rawalpindi.

He was named the Player of the Series and the Player of the Match for his heroics in the final match, which helped the Blackcaps draw the five-match series 2-2.

Mark Chapman has already scored two centuries in his seven ODI appearances (two for Hong Kong, five for New Zealand) and boasts an impressive average of 52.40.

As the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India draws closer, the five-match ODI series against Pakistan will be crucial for both teams to assess their talent pool and finalize their best combination for the marquee event.

For Chapman, the series against Pakistan presents an excellent opportunity to showcase his skills and earn a place in the Blackcaps’ World Cup squad later this year.

Both New Zealand and Pakistan have secured their direct qualification spots alongside five other teams.

The Blackcaps have been impressive in the 50-over format and currently occupy the top spot in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League standings, having won 16 of their 25 matches.
