Sunil Gavaskar Feels Rohit Sharma Needs An IPL Vacation

Rohit Sharma

Gavaskar notes that the person seems slightly preoccupied, possibly due to thoughts about the WTC final at this point in time.

Sunil Gavaskar suggests that Rohit Sharma, who is the captain of Mumbai Indians and India, should consider taking a break from the ongoing IPL in order to return refreshed for the remaining league games and the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final.

During a post-match analysis on Star Sports after Mumbai Indians’ 55-run loss to Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, Gavaskar expressed his desire to see a change in the batting order for Mumbai Indians.

Additionally, he suggested that Rohit should take some time off to keep himself fit and return for the last few matches, as it would be beneficial for him to take a breather at this point in time.

During Tuesday’s match, Rohit Sharma scored only 2 runs off eight balls before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

Rohit’s batting performance has been inconsistent this season, much like the performance of his team.

Despite losing their first two matches, the Mumbai Indians bounced back and won three in a row, only to lose two consecutive matches again.

Rohit has scored a total of 181 runs in seven innings, with a strike rate of 135.07.

However, he has been dismissed between 20 and 45 runs on four occasions this season.

His only half-century of the season, a score of 65 runs, came in a Player-of-the-Match performance against the Delhi Capitals.

The IPL is scheduled to conclude on May 28, and the World Test Championship (WTC) final is set to begin on June 7 at The Oval, where India will be facing Australia.

Sunil Gavaskar pondered whether Rohit Sharma has already begun to focus on the upcoming WTC final, given its significance.

India had lost the previous WTC final to New Zealand, and Gavaskar suggests that this defeat might be on Rohit’s mind as he prepares for the upcoming tournament.

According to Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma seems to be a bit preoccupied, and he speculates that Rohit might be thinking about the upcoming WTC final.

Gavaskar believes that Rohit needs a break at this point and should return for the last few matches to get back into the rhythm for the final.

Rohit has already played a lot of cricket this year, including six ODIs against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, four Tests against Australia, and two ODIs against Australia.

Day 3: Stumps - Australia lead by 296 runs

Mumbai Indians’ next match is against Rajasthan Royals at home on Sunday.

Currently, they are at the seventh spot on the table with three wins from seven games, not as bad as their last-place finish last season, but still far from their standards as the most successful team in IPL history.

Gavaskar thinks it’s unlikely that Mumbai Indians will qualify for the IPL playoffs unless they start playing some exceptional cricket, both with the bat and the ball.

While finishing fourth is possible, it would require an extraordinary effort from the team.
