Gaikwad specifically commended the team management for creating a sense of security among the players and providing clear roles for each individual.
With a 15-run victory over the defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, CSK has positioned themselves strongly to secure their fifth IPL title.
“The pre-season camp played a crucial role for us, especially with a new surface being laid in Chennai,” Gaikwad stated during the post-match press conference.
“There was uncertainty regarding the nature of the pitch and how it would behave. However, when you play on flat tracks, you have the luxury of not overthinking your shots and worrying too much about the opposition’s bowling.”
Gaikwad shared his assessment following CSK’s victory over the Gujarat Titans on the challenging Chepauk pitch, securing their 10th IPL final appearance.
This season marked the first IPL games in Chennai for several CSK players, including Gaikwad himself.
The pre-season camp, which commenced on March 3, saw the likes of Captain Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ambati Rayudu among the initial players to arrive in the city.

“There has been a lot of effort behind our success,” Gaikwad emphasized.
“It all started last year when we didn’t qualify for the playoffs. The management identified areas for improvement and worked on them, whether it was adding new players or focusing on specific aspects. This year, right from the first game, we had clarity on our playing XI and a clear understanding of our strategies. We were clinical in our approach, knowing who would be playing and who would not, and having a well-defined set of 12 or 13 or 15 probable players.”
“I believe that from the very first game, everyone was well aware of their roles,” Gaikwad stated.
“Even when Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana joined us a bit later, they seamlessly fit into the team and performed exceptionally well right from the beginning. We maintained consistency by playing with a largely unchanged lineup and carried the momentum forward. Credit goes to the entire support staff and management for their invaluable contributions.”
In the match, CSK displayed a commendable performance by reaching 172 for 7 on a slow pitch after opting to bat first, as chosen by Hardik Pandya.

Given the challenging conditions, this proved to be a highly competitive total, especially considering that the Gujarat Titans had an unusually off day and were eventually bowled out for 157 runs in 20 overs.
Although Rashid Khan’s quickfire knock of 30 runs off just 16 balls towards the end of the innings made CSK fans nervous, it ultimately fell short of the required target, leaving the Titans unable to secure the victory.
