During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Punjab Kings’ captain Shikhar Dhawan conceded that his decision to play with an additional bowler did not work out well for the team.

Punjab Kings chose to field first with seven bowling options but ended up allowing LSG to score 257/5 runs.

Dhawan recognized that the team leaked too many runs and regretted not having a spinner in their bowling attack.

After the match, Shikhar Dhawan, the captain of Punjab Kings, admitted that his team had given away too many runs.

He also mentioned that he felt that the ball was not coming off the bat quickly and went straight to the fielder when he got dismissed.

Dhawan acknowledged that his decision to play with an additional bowler did not work out as he planned and expressed regret for not having a spinner in the team.

He considered it a learning experience for him. Dhawan also explained that they couldn’t send Shah Rukh Khan ahead to bat, as they had Livi and Sam Curran already in play.

Despite scoring runs at a good pace, Punjab struggled to keep up with the required run rate for most of their innings and eventually collapsed, being all out for a total of 201 runs.

Even though Liam Livingstone and Sikandar Raza made valuable contributions, it was not enough to give the home team a realistic chance of reaching their target.

Atharva Taide played an impressive knock of 66 runs off just 36 balls, but his late surge to chase the target was not sufficient for the Punjab Kings to cross the finish line.

The PBKS innings came to an end in the 20th over of the match when Yash Thakur claimed the wicket of Shahrukh Khan.
