Virat Kohli’s splendid century for RCB proved futile as Shubman Gill’s magnificent performance led Gujarat Titans to a sensational six-wicket victory in Bengaluru, leaving the home crowd dismayed.
In their last league match of IPL 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) found themselves in a must-win situation against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), in order to secure a spot in the Playoffs.

However, their hopes were shattered by a remarkable century from Shubman Gill, which resulted in RCB crashing out of the Playoffs race.
On the contrary, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their place in the Playoffs with a nail-biting one-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.
The animosity between Afghanistan and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) paceman Naveen-ul-Haq and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli is no secret, following their highly publicized altercation earlier in the season.
Adding fuel to the fire, Naveen took to Instagram on Sunday and shared a ‘cryptic’ story after Kohli’s century proved futile, leading to Gujarat Titans’ six-wicket triumph.
Naveen’s post quickly went viral on social media, as fans unmistakably interpreted it as a mocking gesture towards Kohli and RCB.
Following their IPL 2023 league encounter in Lucknow, an intense altercation erupted between Kohli and Naveen, subsequent to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) victory.
Notably, Kohli found himself embroiled in yet another confrontation, this time with Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) mentor Gautam Gambhir.

As a consequence, both Kohli and Gambhir were slapped with fines equivalent to 100 percent of their match fees, whereas Naveen received a fine amounting to 50 percent of his match fees.
Ever since the altercation, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have faced incessant taunting in the form of relentless “Kohli, Kohli” chants wherever they have played.
In a recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens, Naveen-ul-Haq took matters into his own hands, silencing the crowd.
The incident unfolded in the second over of the KKR innings when Jason Roy, the English batsman, unleashed a flurry of boundaries against the Afghan pacer.
The fervent crowd, firmly in support of Kohli, erupted into a chorus of “Kohli, Kohli,” creating an electric atmosphere within the stadium.
In a defiant response to the resounding chants, Naveen-ul-Haq raised his finger to his lips, signaling for silence from the boisterous crowd.
However, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ home spectators remained undeterred, persistently showering the pacer with fervent Kohli chants, disregarding his gesture.

It is noteworthy that this exchange is not an isolated incident. Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants, had previously engaged in a similar gesture during a match held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis expressed his profound disappointment at the team’s failure to qualify for the Playoffs stage.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, he acknowledged the strength of the team they fielded and praised Shubman Gill’s outstanding innings.
Du Plessis mentioned that the pitch had significant grip during the second innings and believed that their score of 195-200 was competitive.
He emphasized the missed opportunities to dismiss Shubman, which proved costly for RCB.
Assessing their batting performance, Du Plessis highlighted the contributions of the top four batsmen.
However, he acknowledged the team’s consistent struggle to accumulate runs in the latter part of the innings throughout the season.

He also noted that they were unable to take enough wickets during the middle overs. Du Plessis emphasized the need for a strong middle order to ensure they finish matches successfully.
While last season it was Dinesh Karthik who played that role, this season it did not materialize as desired, according to the RCB skipper.
