During the chase, Delhi Capitals’ Phil Salt had an almost flawless innings, with barely any hiccups. He started off strong right from the powerplay, taking out RCB’s best bowler Mohammad Siraj with 6, 6, and 4 in quick succession.
This momentum carried on throughout the innings, and although he was dropped by Dinesh Karthik on 10 off Wanindu Hasaranga, Salt’s hitting was clinical and he picked lengths early.
Additionally, he was also lucky to get the rub of the green as the dew set in.
According to Faf du Plessis, the dew factor may have made it a little easier for Delhi Capitals to chase, but it was also RCB’s decision to bat first that may have worked against them.
They were unlucky to have come up against Phil Salt in such an imperious form. Salt’s eight fours and six sixes allowed his teammates to bat around him without much pressure.
RCB may have been left ruing the fact that none of DC’s batters were left questioning their approach during the chase.
Despite their total of 181, DC’s David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Rilee Rossouw all managed to contribute with useful cameos alongside Salt.
This was a stark contrast to how the match and pitch were read at the halfway stage, with RCB believing they had posted 20 runs more than what they had wanted, thanks to some pleasant surprises with the bat.
In the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally got a valuable contribution from someone outside of their Big Three.
Mahipal Lomror scored his maiden half-century, which not only helped them to reach a total of 181 but also rescued them from a difficult position after a double strike from Mitchell Marsh just past the halfway mark of the innings.
Lomror’s counterattacking innings helped RCB to build a platform and then power their way to a good total.
Mitchell Marsh’s double strike caused a pickle for RCB just past the halfway mark of their innings.

The all-rounder first dismissed Faf du Plessis by forcing him to slice to the deep on the offside, and then off the very next ball, he had Glenn Maxwell nicking behind off an attempted cut. This threatened to undo the platform built earlier by the team.
RCB had a solid start, thanks to the 82-run opening partnership between Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis.
Kohli, who scored 55 runs, became the first player to reach 7000 runs in the IPL.
Initially, Kohli played aggressively before du Plessis started scoring boundaries against Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed in the latter half of the powerplay.
This kickstarted his innings and allowed him to take the lead role in the partnership, while Kohli shifted to an anchoring role before getting dismissed by Marsh.

Mahipal Lomror was given the freedom to counterattack, and he took risks against Kuldeep Yadav in the beginning, hitting him for two sixes, and then hit another six against Mitchell Marsh to ease the pressure created by the quick double wicket loss.
RCB had plenty of wickets left when they entered the death overs, allowing Lomror to continue his aggressive batting and hitting six fours and three sixes in total to help RCB reach a good total.
