IPL 2023: Brett Lee Praises Punjab Kings’ Brett Lee Singh Prabhsimran

Chasing a challenging target of 168 runs for victory, courtesy of Prabhsimran Singh’s spectacular century (103 runs off 65 balls, including 10 fours and 6 sixes), the Delhi Capitals could only manage a total of 136/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In Match No. 59 of IPL 2023, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday night, the Punjab Kings maintained their hopes of reaching the playoffs by securing a convincing 31-run victory over the Delhi Capitals.

Unfortunately for the Delhi Capitals, this defeat has sealed their fate, as they can no longer progress to the playoffs stage.

After Prabhsimran Singh’s remarkable century (103 runs off 65 balls, including 10 boundaries and 6 sixes), the Punjab Kings set a challenging target of 168 runs for the Delhi Capitals to chase.

However, the Delhi Capitals fell short, managing only 136/8 in their allocated 20 overs. The spinners, Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar, played pivotal roles in the Punjab Kings’ victory.

Harpreet Brar proved to be the chief tormentor, claiming impressive figures of 4/30 in his four overs, while Rahul Chahar contributed with 2/16 in his spell of four overs.

It was their combined efforts that turned the tide in favor of the Punjab Kings, just when the hosts appeared to be cruising towards the target.

The partnership between Delhi Capitals’ openers, David Warner (54 runs off 27 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six) and Phil Salt (21 runs off 17 balls, including 3 fours), was broken when their team’s score reached 69 in the seventh over.

Unfortunately for the Delhi Capitals, their performance only declined from that point onwards.

With this victory, the Punjab Kings reached a total of 12 points from 12 games, while the Delhi Capitals find themselves at the bottom of the table with 8 points from 12 games.

Commenting on Prabhsimran Singh’s remarkable innings, JioCinema IPL expert Parthiv Patel stated, “He struck two sixes in just one over off Mitchell Marsh.

We have witnessed such batting displays from him in domestic matches.

However, to deliver such shots under pressure on a challenging pitch at this stage of the tournament deserves immense praise.”

Brett Lee, another JioCinema IPL expert, praised Prabhsimran Singh’s exceptional performance by stating, “He played brilliantly, didn’t he? Tonight, he hit a total of six sixes.

He confidently faced the bowlers, displayed excellent sweep shots against the spinners, and capitalized on opportunities to charge down the wicket.

In my opinion, that’s the most effective approach on this pitch.

In my opinion, targeting the stumps is crucial on this pitch, particularly when the ball is low and there is even a slight amount of turn.

By aiming for the stumps, you increase the likelihood of taking wickets.

Additionally, when there is some turn, there is also a good chance of securing an LBW dismissal.”
