The Saturday double-header of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) saw two away wins, with Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerging victorious in their respective clashes.
GT defeated the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets at Eden Gardens, while SRH comfortably triumphed over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground.
GT’s win has propelled them to the top of the points table, while SRH’s third win of the season has resulted in a slight improvement in their standings.
Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra celebrated his 44th birthday on Saturday and his team gave him a perfect gift by securing a hard-earned victory that propelled them to the top of the IPL 2023 points table.
The win was made even sweeter as it highlighted the emergence of two new match winners in Vijay Shankar and David Miller.
After Mohammed Shami’s impressive three-wicket haul helped restrict KKR to 179 for 7 in 20 overs, GT chased down the target with ease, reaching it in just 17.5 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Following the early dismissal of Wriddhiman Saha for just 10 runs, Shubman Gill played a gritty innings of 49 runs to stabilize the KKR innings.

Hardik Pandya then anchored the innings with a quickfire 20-ball 26. However, after the fall of both these key batsmen, Gujarat Titans required a strong partnership to keep their chase on track as the target still seemed far away.
Fortunately, Vijay Shankar and David Miller stepped up to the plate and built a match-winning partnership for the fourth wicket, ultimately guiding their team to a brilliant victory.
In the return fixture between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC), SRH emerged victorious, dealing another blow to DC’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
The DC camp was left with much to ponder as the team displayed poor cricket once again.
Winning the toss, SRH put up a formidable total of 197 for 6 in 20 overs, thanks in large part to Abhishek Sharma’s impressive knock of 67 and Heinrich Klaasen’s maiden IPL fifty.
DC struggled to keep up with the run rate during their chase and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Despite Mitchell Marsh’s valiant 39-ball 63, DC fell short by 9 runs in the end.
Here’s an updated look at the IPL 2023 points table: Gujarat Titans have taken over the top spot with 6 wins from 8 games and a healthy strike rate of 0.638.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) are close behind with 5 wins from the same number of matches.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) currently sit in third place, followed by Chennai Super Kings in fourth.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has managed to climb one spot in the standings after their recent win over DC and now sit in the eighth position on the table.
