Daryl Mitchell Century Boosts New Zealand to 288/7
New Zealand got off to a strong start in the first ODI at Rawalpindi stadium thanks to a century by Daryl Mitchell and an impressive 86 by Will Young.
The Kiwi openers, Chad Bowes and Young, were cautious against the new ball, but their partnership was cut short when Bowes was dismissed by Haris Rauf.

Mitchell then joined Young at the crease, and the pair steadily built the innings. Young reached his fifty after the first drinks break, and both batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking at almost six runs an over.
Despite being the more aggressive of the two, Young was eventually dismissed by Shadab Khan, falling just short of what would have been his third ODI century.
Mitchell, however, continued to bat well and reached his fifty before accelerating towards his second ODI hundred.
Tom Latham also came in to bat but failed to make an impact, getting out LBW to Shaheen Afridi.
Despite some tight bowling from the Pakistani hosts towards the end of the innings, New Zealand managed to post a competitive total of 288 for 7.
New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme and Kyle Jamieson were the new batsmen at the crease after Daryl Mitchell’s dismissal in the 47th over.
