The latest player retainership list for the senior national women’s team, released by the BCCI, has excluded some notable players such as Pacer Shikha Pandey and leg-spinner Poonam Yadav.
Poonam has not represented India in any format since March 2022, and Shikha has been in and out of the T20I squad while not playing in ODIs since 2021.

It is worth noting that Poonam, who held a Grade A contract last year, has been removed from the list entirely. In contrast, Shikha held a Grade C contract in the last cycle.
Additionally, wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia and Arundati Reddy are also not part of the contracts list.
On a positive note, Jemimah Rodrigues and dynamic keeper-bat Richa Ghosh have been promoted to Grade B, while fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has been included in the second pay grade with her first central contract.
All three players have played an essential role in India’s limited-overs fixtures over the past 12 months and rightfully earned the reward.
The Grade A contract list for the senior national women’s team has been reduced to only three players, compared to five in the previous year.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma are the only ones to retain their Grade A contracts this year, as veteran players Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami have retired and consequently excluded from the list.
The contracts list now features a total of seven new players who were not contracted last year, including left-arm spinner Radha Yadav and left-hand batter Yastika Bhatia.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who was part of the elite Grade A list last year, has been moved down to Grade B, while all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has slipped from Grade B to Grade C.
Meanwhile, the status quo has been maintained for Harleen Deol (Grade C), Sneh Rana (Grade C), and Shafali Verma (Grade B) from last year.
The Grade B contract list includes Renuka Singh Thakur, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

In summary, the BCCI’s latest player retainership list for the senior national women’s team has gone through several changes, including notable exclusions and promotions.
The new contracts list features a blend of experienced and fresh players who have been rewarded based on their performances in the past year.
The Grade C contract list for the senior national women’s team, with an INR 10 lakh value, includes Meghna Singh, Devika Vaidya, Sabbineni Meghana, Anjali Sarvani, Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Harleen Deol, and Yastika Bhatia.
These players have been given a lower pay grade, but their inclusion in the contracts list is still a significant recognition of their contribution to the team.

It’s worth noting that some of the players in this list, such as Radha Yadav and Harleen Deol, have been promoted to a higher pay grade from last year, while others have maintained their positions.
The Grade C contract list serves as an incentive for the players to continue performing well and earning higher contracts in the future.
