Despite the six-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in match number 61, CSK’s captain, MS Dhoni, led the entire squad on a lap around the Chepauk stadium to express gratitude to the enthusiastic crowd for their unwavering support throughout the season.
There was a sense of uncertainty as spectators contemplated whether it was the last occasion that the legendary captain MS Dhoni would grace the Chepauk crowd, as it remains unclear whether he will return to lead the team in the 2024 season.
Even the former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar, seized the opportunity to cherish the significant moment, requesting a special autograph from Dhoni.
A video capturing the heartwarming moment of Dhoni signing his autograph on Gavaskar’s shirt quickly went viral on social media platforms.
Although the MA Chidambaram Stadium is set to host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have not yet secured a place in the playoffs following their defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday night.

Gavaskar later disclosed that upon learning about CSK’s plan for a lap of honor after the match, he promptly borrowed a pen.
The legendary Indian opener then showered Dhoni with admiration for his incredible contributions to Indian cricket.
“Who doesn’t adore him? His achievements in Indian cricket have been nothing short of amazing.
Equally important is the fact that he has been a role model, inspiring countless young cricketers.
Thank you very much, I borrowed a pen. As soon as I heard about the lap of honor, I made sure to keep it with me,” Gavaskar expressed on the Star Sports network.
Meanwhile, in his final home league match at the Chepauk, Dhoni could only muster an unbeaten 2 runs as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set a modest target of 144 for 6 after batting first.
However, Dhoni attributed the dew factor for affecting the effectiveness of the CSK bowlers and believed that the team needed to score over 180 runs under the prevailing conditions to stand a chance in the match.
“As soon as we began bowling in the second innings, we realized that we needed a total of 180 runs.

However, it was practically impossible to achieve such a score on that pitch. The presence of dew had a significant impact in the second innings.
We can’t really fault any of our bowlers. It was primarily the conditions that had a major influence on the outcome of the game,” Dhoni stated during the post-match presentation.
