Displaying an impressive performance, Neser claimed a remarkable four-wicket haul for Glamorgan.
Teaming up with Timm van der Gugten, Neser wreaked havoc on a slow and moisture-laden pitch, dismantling the Worcestershire top order.
Subsequently, James Harris also made his mark by securing four wickets of his own, leading to the visitors being bowled out for a mere 109 runs.
However, Glamorgan’s own batting line-up struggled on a day dominated by swinging and seaming conditions.
They closed the day’s play at 177 for six, with notable contributions from David Lloyd and Marnus Labuschagne serving as the highlights for the home team amidst the bowlers’ dominance.
In an eventful opening day, Matthew Waite, in his debut season with Glamorgan after leaving Yorkshire, claimed a significant wicket by dismissing Australia’s Ashes hopeful, Marnus Labuschagne, who inside-edged the ball onto his stumps, departing for 42 runs.
Glamorgan currently holds a lead of 68 runs in the first innings, with a total of 16 wickets falling on the day.
The lead continues to grow, and unless the pitch transforms into a more docile state as witnessed in previous matches at Cardiff this season, it could prove to be a decisive advantage in securing victory.
Timm van der Gugten and Michael Neser were in formidable form right from the start, causing havoc with the new ball and reducing the Worcestershire side to a precarious 25 for five.
Taylor Cornall was the first to depart, falling lbw to van der Gugten’s delivery.
In quick succession, Neser dismissed Ed Pollock and Jack Haynes within three balls, with both batsmen caught in the slip cordon.
In a display of superb fielding, Marnus Labuschagne showcased his skills by taking a brilliant one-handed catch in the slips to dismiss Pakistan international Azhar Ali off the bowling of Timm van der Gugten.
The catch was low and swift, adding to the excitement of the moment.
Worcestershire captain Brett D’Oliveira also fell victim to the bowling prowess of Michael Neser, being trapped lbw by an inswinger.

There may have been a glimmer of hope for Worcestershire when Neser and van der Gugten were taken out of the attack.
However, their aspirations were short-lived as Adam Hose suffered a 15-ball duck, being dismissed by the first delivery bowled by James Harris.
Hose attempted a forceful shot through the covers, but an inside edge resulted in the ball crashing into his stumps, leaving Worcestershire reeling at 34 for six.
Worcestershire’s assistant coach, Kadeer Ali, described the day as “very weird” and expressed disappointment with their batting performance.
However, a semblance of stability emerged as Gareth Roderick and Matthew Waite formed the first meaningful partnership of the Worcestershire innings, guiding their team to 66 for six at the lunch break.
Neser, upon his return after the interval, managed to break the partnership, but Roderick and Joe Leach pushed the score beyond the 100-run mark.
James Harris concluded Worcestershire’s innings with a remarkable three-wicket burst, including two consecutive dismissals, as they were bowled out for a total of 109 runs.
With this feat, Harris now stands a chance to claim a hat-trick when he bowls in the second innings.
Worcestershire had an ideal start when Joe Leach dismissed Eddie Byrom early on.
However, their fielding performance in the initial overs was marred by sloppiness.
Jack Haynes missed opportunities by dropping catches of both David Lloyd and Marnus Labuschagne in the slip cordon.
Despite these chances, the Glamorgan duo forged a valuable partnership, amassing 81 runs before Lloyd was eventually bowled by Leach for 48, his highest score of the season thus far.
After the tea interval, Worcestershire found their rhythm and began to make an impact.
With the dismissal of David Lloyd, Glamorgan stood at a comfortable 88 for two, seemingly on their way to establishing a substantial first innings lead.
However, Worcestershire’s fortunes took a dramatic turn as they staged a remarkable comeback, claiming four wickets for a mere 21 runs.

Spearheading the bowling attack was Adam Finch, who stood out with impressive figures of three for 39.
This resurgence brought Worcestershire back into the game, injecting a new level of competitiveness into the match.
