Both hit a boundary each off Jos Little before Samson’s flick caught the leading edge of his bat and went high in the air, landing in the hands of Hardik Pandya at cover.
However, these two dismissals paved the way for Royals’ collapse.
The Afghanistan spinners, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed, took control of the match, bagging five wickets between them to limit the Royals to a mere 118 runs before Gujarat Titans’ top three had an easy time in the chase.
After the first five overs of the game, the Rajasthan Royals were in a good position with 47 runs on the scoreboard and having lost only one wicket.
However, a miscommunication between the two batsmen resulted in both of them being on the same side of the pitch and led to the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Samson and Padikkal continued to score boundaries off Jos Little to maintain the momentum for Royals.
However, Samson’s flick resulted in a leading edge that was caught by Pandya at cover, and Padikkal was bowled by Noor Ahmed, leading to a collapse in the Royals’ batting order.
R Ashwin, who was promoted to bat at number 5, was bowled by Rashid Khan while Riyan Parag, who was the impact substitute, was trapped leg-before wicket.
By the halfway mark of their innings, the Rajasthan Royals were reduced to 72 for 5.
Then, Noor Ahmed took control. He bowled Devdutt Padikkal and had Dhruv Jurel adjudged LBW after beating him on the inside edge.
Rashid Khan added to Rajasthan’s troubles by picking up his third wicket, trapping Shimron Hetmyer LBW.
With very few recognized batsmen left, the Royals were struggling at 96 for 8 by the 15th over.
Trent Boult briefly entertained with his 11-ball 15, including a six over mid-wicket off Noor Ahmed, but he was eventually dismissed. Rajasthan were all out for a paltry 118 in only 17.5 overs.
Before Rajasthan Royals could even try to make a comeback on a pitch that appeared to be challenging for batters, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill eliminated any such possibilities.
Saha attacked Trent Boult, who has been one of the more successful bowlers in this IPL, while Gill played more cautiously with well-placed ground strokes.
Saha played over the infield on both the offside and legside, while Gill relied more on placement than power.
The duo added 71 runs for the first wicket in just 9.4 overs, before Gill was fooled by Yuzvendra Chahal’s flight and dip, and stumped on 36.
In the final act of the match, Hardik Pandya ensured that Gujarat Titans reached the target with ease. Despite the fall of Gill’s wicket, Pandya wasted no time in going for the target.
