This marked DC’s second consecutive win of the season after a series of five losses at the start of IPL 2023.
In the match against SRH, Delhi Capitals failed to complete their allotted 20 overs within the stipulated time and had to play with one less fielder during the final over against the home team.
However, Mukesh Kumar emerged as the hero for DC by defending 13 runs in the final over against Washington Sundar and Marco Jansen with remarkable finesse.
However, the slow over-rate of Delhi Capitals’ bowlers resulted in a penalty for their skipper David Warner.
The IPL released a statement which read, “Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.”
The statement further explained that this was the first offence of the season for the team under the IPL’s Code of Conduct for minimum over-rate violations.
As a result, Mr. Warner had to pay a fine of Rs. 12 lakh.
The imposition of a penalty on David Warner came a day after Virat Kohli, the stand-in captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, was fined Rs 24 lakh for his team’s second over-rate violation.
Earlier this season, the regular RCB skipper Faf du Plessis had also been fined Rs 12 lakh for the team’s first offence.
As per the IPL’s Code of Conduct, for the second over-rate violation in a season, the bowling team’s captain will be fined 24 lakhs and the other 10 players will either be fined six lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
In case of a third and each subsequent violation in a season, the captain of the bowling team will be fined 30 lakhs and will also be banned for one match.

Additionally, the other 10 players in the team will also be fined 12 lakhs or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
Apart from Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Faf du Plessis, Gujarat Titans’ captain Hardik Pandya and Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson have also been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate.
