CSK Beat MI to Climb to Second Spot
Chennai Super Kings secured a smooth 6-wicket triumph – just their second win at the M Chidambaram Stadium against Mumbai Indians – to climb up to the second position in the points table.
The team showcased an impressive bowling performance, spearheaded by Matheesha Pathirana’s exceptional figures of 3 for 15, which limited the opposition to a mere total of 139 for 8.

Chennai’s batsmen then efficiently chased down the target with 14 balls to spare, completing an all-around dominant performance.
Mumbai Indians’ decision to change the batting order – pushing Rohit Sharma to No 3 and opening with Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green – didn’t quite pay off.
Green was bowled by Tushar Deshpande in just the second over, while Deepak Chahar claimed the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in quick succession.
Kishan attempted a big shot, but only managed to top-edge it to mid-on, while Rohit tried to outsmart MS Dhoni’s tactic of standing up to the stumps by playing a lap shot that ended up going towards short third man.
As a result of these dismissals, Mumbai Indians found themselves struggling at 33 for 3 at the end of the Powerplay, and they were unable to recover from this position throughout the remainder of the innings.
On the other hand, CSK dominated with the bat in the Powerplay.
Although Ruturaj Gaikwad was unable to capitalize on a half-tracker by Piyush Chawla and got dismissed, his aggressive batting against Cameron Green and Arshad Khan, which resulted in a quickfire 30 off 16 balls, set a solid foundation for the hosts.

As a result, Chennai Super Kings raced to 50 for 1 in the Powerplay, establishing their dominance with the bat early in the game.
Chennai Super Kings maintained their grip on the game and didn’t allow Mumbai Indians to recover from their early setbacks.
Despite Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera’s efforts to stabilize the innings, they found it challenging to score runs.
Both Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana bowled with pace and accuracy, not giving the batsmen any room to play their shots.
Eventually, after adding 55 runs in 46 deliveries, Suryakumar’s off-stump was uprooted by Jadeja, putting an end to his valiant effort.
Despite the partnership between Suryakumar and Wadhera stabilizing Mumbai Indians’ innings and setting up a good platform for their big-hitting lower-middle order, none of them were able to make an impact.
Tristan Stubbs, who replaced the ill Tilak Verma, struggled to find his timing, while Tim David, Arshad Khan, and Jofra Archer couldn’t spend enough time at the crease to make a significant contribution.
Wadhera, who also found it difficult to get going in the initial phase of his innings, picked up the pace towards the end.
However, his knock of 64 off 51 deliveries could only help Mumbai Indians post a respectable total, if not a competitive one.
Matheesha Pathirana bowled exceptionally well in the death overs, cleaning up Wadhera and getting Stubbs and Arshad caught (the latter was dropped at long off by Shivam Dube on the previous delivery).
The following paragraph is “After a solid start in the Powerplay, Chennai Super Kings took a measured approach to chase down the target.
Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane formed a steady partnership, adding 35 runs in 29 balls before the latter was dismissed leg-before by Piyush Chawla’s googly.
However, by the time Rahane departed, the match was almost in CSK’s bag.
Mumbai Indians managed to claim two wickets towards the end of the game, with the dismissals of Ambati Rayudu and Conway.
However, these breakthroughs had no impact on the final outcome.

Shivam Dube hit a six off Arshad’s bouncer, and MS Dhoni guided a delivery from the left-arm pacer towards the leg side, taking the hosts over the line and sealing the win for CSK.
