Legend Gone: West Indies Seek New Coach
The West Indies didn’t do very well at this year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, so they quickly announced that their head coach, the Caribbean legend and ICC Hall of Fame member Courtney Walsh, will not have his contract extended.
Walsh took over in October 2020 and led the West Indies to the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand in 2022, where they lost to Australia, who went on to win the tournament.

But things haven’t gone as Walsh and the West Indies had hoped in recent years. The Caribbean team didn’t make it to the knockout rounds of the T20 World Cup in South Africa.
England and India beat the West Indies in their first two games of the tournament, so even though they beat Ireland and Pakistan in their next two games, they could only come third in their group.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) said that Walsh, as well as assistant coaches Robert Samuels and Corey Collymore, would not have their contracts extended.
This was because of how poorly the senior Women’s team did in the T20 World Cup.
Jimmy Adams, who is in charge of cricket for the CWI, thanked the three for what they did and said that the search for a new teacher will start in the next few weeks.
Adams said, “We are very thankful for what Courtney and his technical team have done for us over the past two and a half years, and we wish them the best for the future.”
“CWI is still committed to our foreign women’s programme and will now focus on finding a new Head Coach and technical support team.
“During the time it takes to find the right people, a temporary technical support team will be put in place.”
Walsh’s job with the West Indies was his first big international coaching job.
Before that, he had worked with Bangladesh as their bowling coach and with Kings XI Punjab in the IPL as a talent scout and fast bowling coach.

Walsh is known for being one of the best fast bowlers of all time.
In his long international career with the West Indies, the tall right-armer took 519 wickets in Test matches.
